Pretty good!

I had two small suggestions with the previous version: the photo import was a little buggy, but worked, so hopefully the new version improved that. Only remaining comment: we need a custom ethnicity/cuisine: it would be great to tag recipes as "gluten free", "paleo", "grandmas version" or whatever we might want. Responses on the photo import bugs were pretty fast, so hopefully this feature will be added in the next round of upgrades! Thanks, Antoneella

Best App. Ive been wanting!! Thank You!!

This is exactly what I have been wanting for a long time. No more losing my written recipes on paper. I am a very organized person, and this is exactly what helps me to be that way. The price for the App. was well worth it. Great job!!

Not bad!! Kinda love this app!!

I will have to say for the price its really a good deal. It does exactly what I need it to do and displays exactly how I want it to. Just wonder what the secret is to adding photos. Havent figured that out yet. Is there a special trick I need to know because clicking on the blank photo image spot doesnt do it for me, I would thik it would go from there to add photo. Would also like to suggest different background choices. Thats it! Its worth the small price. :)

Misleading Discription

The ability to sort my recipes is nice and all, but if I realized I would have to format the ingredient list and directions myself I probably would not have bought this app. The description is not clear on the fact that while you can copy and paste the ingredients and directions, they stay exactly how you copied them (usually just a hard to read block of text). I think it would take less time to individually copy each ingredient on to a separate line than it does to copy them in and then make sure they look the way I want them to. Also, especially because this app claims to be designed for the modern person that finds most of their recipes online, it would be helpful to at least have more text color options so changes to the original recipe can be made in a different color. In general its only slightly more useful than a word document or a cluttered recipe box.

So far so good

I just bought your app, and so far I like it quite a bit. No, youre right, I dont want other peoples recipes. Additionally, I like that I can format things in my own shorthand, and not have to fit into some prescribed templet. There are a couple of things that would be helpful, though. I couldnt find a way to increase the font size, and my eyes are not what they used to be. I would also like a way to print up a table of contents, since my mac is not in my kitchen, and I will have to print up my recipes to use them. Or.... if you had a touch version of this, I could use that until I save up for my ipad! I know I can email a version to myself each time, but I am lazy. I fully expect you to support my laziness!!!

SushiLvr

Great concept, clean app - only gave 4 stars since after pasting photo in box, it will not remain after clicking on "Done". Can someone please shed some light on how to make this work? Thanks. Just revised my review to upgrade from 4 stars to 5. In the description the developer states to add your photo to your recipe you drag and drop it into the box. So, my bad for not reading the entire description. I just opened up the photo I wanted to use and placed it on my desktop, and then with the app open - dropped and dragged the photo from the desktop directly to the photo box in the application. Viola ~ and it worked. Hopefully those of you who were having the same problem will read this. :-)

Amazing for copying photos and recipes

I have no problems with this wonderful app, I only wish there was a iPad app iPhone app so I can take my recipes with me. Please work on that.

nice but would love the option of putting ingredients in to boxes so i can print a grocery list

I love the app it is beautiful and easy to use. The only thing i believe is lacking is a option to make a grocery list. I know it would be a little more time consuming to enter the ingredients in individually but you only do that once. You will be using and printing them more often and wouldnt it be awesome to be able to print a cumulitive ingredient list from you reciepes that you have selected to eat that for that week, weekend or party (etc)? Other than that great app!

Love it, Use it all the time

I have been using the app since March 2011 and I love it. I find it easy to use. I just copy and paste or if I want to add a recipe from a cookbook, I type it in, simple. To add a picture simply drag it onto desk top then into app. simple! My only request is for the ability to add more photos. Sometimes "how to" photos would be great.

SUPER App!!!!

This app is AMAZING.... I have seen comments about not being able to put a picture in the recipe. All you have to do is put the pic on your desktop, then drag and drop it to the square for the picture. Simple.... GREAT app.....

Just What I Was Looking For

This app is great. I was looking for a place to compile all of my recipes and this is perfect. They can be separated into groups of your own making and this app also has a kitchen view. Great app.

Good but missing some organizational aspects.

Love the interface. Easy to use and looks good. But I wish there were a way to add tags to my recipes so I can sort them by season, ingredient, etc., without cluttering up the side bar.

Simple no fluff

For the price definitely an economical way to store your recipes on your Mac. It imported recipes from MacGourmet just fine minus pictures (but that is fairly standard). If you want a simple, no fluff, way to store recipes then the 99 cents for this is good. I like the cooking view so I can see a recipe screen size rather than in a little box. I have been looking for a way to go from Living Cookbook to the Mac. This is a simple fix until I find something that lets me have more control over organizing the recipes in the program. Pros: cheap, simple, imports well Cons: Does not appear to let you drag/drop recipes into different groups.

The name belies reality

Recipes is definitely the least user friendly recipe manager Ive ever had the dubious pleasure of experiencing. For some reason you cant add a recipe without creating a group first? There is almost no feedback to the program (why cant I add a recipe - I had no idea!) I really like the idea of a stripped down recipe app, but it needs some reworking and someone, ANYONE, competent at UI/UX. Even though I picked this up as part of $2 Tuesday, I regret the purchase.

Love this app

I would like to the app to be able to be downloaded to my iPad and then I could sync between my MacBook Pro and the iPad

Excellent App!

First, I dont know what the reviewer is referring to when they say you cant add a recipe without creating a new Group - of course you can! You just need to hit the plus sign under recipes within a group rather than the plus sign under groups. I find this apps very simplicity to be its major advantage. Adding and editing both groups and recipes is super simple. Recipes easily accepts cut and pasted content so I can find a recipe online, cut the ingredients, paste it to Recipes, cut the directions, etc. Then I can actually go back and edit what I have just pasted into Recipes - something I cannot do with Evernote. I also love that I can take a picture of my own food or copy the picture from the web and easily import it into this database. In many cases, it really helps to see what something should look like before you start cooking. I love the "Notes" section where you can put any little annotations or even copy and past entire sections, such as recipe reviewers comments, into the recipe. I really dont see a need for tags as you can put in any ingredient into the search box and it will immediately find the recipe(s) containing the ingredient. Once again - beautiful simplicity. The only enhancement I would like is a sister app for the iPad so I could use the recipes more easily while actually cooking. With Recipes only residing on my Mac, I have to print out each recipe in order to utilize them in my kitchen. Of course, I realize, that is a totally different operating system so is much more easily said than done. But it would be wonderful!

Absolutely Gorgeous!

I have Yummy soup, but I can see already that I will use this application much more mainly because of its ease of use, full screen capability, ease of adding recipes, search function….. and I just REALLY like the way it looks. Its very simple to copy/paste or even drag images and highlighted text into the application, making it fairly quick to set up a recipe. Once again, Im more than happy to feed Michaels cat. :)

LOVE

Ive previously purchased other recipe apps and before the update I wasnt really pleased with my purchase. After the update this app is beautiful, user friendly and Im on it ALL the time!! Cant wait for the iPhone version!!

Great App

Overall, a well-designed app. It gets the job done and has a very clean look. No bugs so far, and very easy to use. I do think it could use some helpful tweaks. I would love to put my recipes in more than one category. Also, it would be nice to have some sort of interface where I could search recipes made public by others and automatically import them into my library.

Recipes Disappeared!!!

I loved this app! I found it easy to use and so pretty. I could add recipes and use them with no problem. I had about 30 recipes I had manually imput into the app when all of a sudden I opened the app one day to cook and all my recipes were gone! EVERYTHING DISAPPEARED!!! ALL MY WORK AND RECIPES WERE GONE! ALL THAT TIME WASTED! Now Im hesitant to waste my time again and give it another try. The sad part was that I really did like it. :( If it were up and running, I would have written a glowing review with a suggestion that it could use some organization features as mentioned in another review.
